BID 4 BURY NEWS
Bid4bury launches Street Rangers, new Digital Townlink Radio and new anti Crime software [ 01/08/2010 ]

In a pledge given by Bid4bury within their business plan, Street Rangers are soon to become a regular face on the streets of Bury St Edmunds. This and two other developments by the group, will enhance the protection offered to businesses, should reduce shoplifting, littering, anti-social behaviour, and make Bury St Edmunds an even safer and friendlier place to shop and visit.  In an agreement between Bid4bury and the Ipswich BID (Ipswich Central) the recruitment process is underway to bring Street Rangers to Bury St Edmunds.  Steve Peters said” It’s taken a few months since we started with the Bid4Bury team to look at the various options. Our colleagues in Ipswich have several years experience, and their scheme offers the best value for money for us, and the chance to be up-and-running fast” The Street Rangers will act both as ambassadors for the town centre to inform visitors and locals alike to the town, learning from the existing Blue Badge Guides as well as acting as an added security measure to the businesses within the town centre.  By working with Ipswich Central who have been operating one of the most successful Street Rangers scheme in the country, Bid4Bury Street Rangers will have full Police accreditation from the start, and undergo a fully recognised training programme in all aspects of their duties with an established and successful model. The ranger’s project team will also work very closely with the Police and Safer Neighbourhood teams.  In a further promise given by Bid4Bury, the existing town-link radio system whereby businesses can communicate or call for help with problems that arise in or around their businesses, is about to be updated from analogue to digital with new enhanced radio’s provided for each participant business. A new crime management software programme is also to be provided for each business within the Bid4Bury area, allowing businesses to be kept instantly up-to-date and informed of any problems or problem-makers within Bury town centre.

Paul Haynes, Interim Chair of Bid4Bury said” The culmination of these three projects will give Bury St Edmunds town centre, one of the most up-to-date and comprehensive security packages available to businesses throughout the country, and will ensure the already safe and friendly environment of the town centre is enhanced.”

Bid4Bury Board elections underway [ 01/03/2010 ]
Bid4Bury Board Elections

As you may have seen, and as outlined in our Bid4Bury business plan, we are now in the final stages of bringing in the new management board made up of town centre businesses, for the Bury St Edmunds BID, Bid4Bury. Since the successful vote in December, we have been complying with legal requirements in order to meet BID legislation, as well as changing the company constitution to ensure we operate the BID within the company rules, ready for its commencement this year. Thankfully these requirements are now drawing to a close and we can get on with fulfilling the projects once the funding starts to come in.

For the management board itself, we asked for expressions of interest from town centre businesses, and are pleased with the level of interest that has been shown.  It is now up to the levy paying businesses to vote for which of the nominee’s they would like to represent their interests for the management of the BID.There are eight vacancies on the new board.

The closing date for the vote will be Wednesday, 17th March 2010.
